On September 5th in Bend Oregon our team worked for Slide City in Bend, Oregon. We closed down College Way and flagged on Newport. We provided extra support to watch the intersections and stop signs of the back neighborhood streets to ensure no unwanted drivers were parking in non-designated areas. Ultimately the entire team had great fun, but not nearly as much as these sliders!
The wildfires have been raging this year in Central Oregon. The smokey conditions this past two weeks has proven to be a hazard and present a unique barrier for outdoor workers. We want to give our thanks to the teams dedication for being out in the hot weather coupled with poor air quality. In this photo a team was following a crew trimming the trees next to power lines. As you can see in this photo the smoke also impairs driver vision. Thank you TCC team for providing safe direction to traffic!
We also want to give thanks to the fire fighters who have been working day and night to contain the wildfires in Warm Springs and the rest of Oregon. We heard of four of your brothers who passed in Washington. We are forever in your debt and your families' debt. Thank you for putting your lives on the line to protect our beloved land and homes. Ever seen a tick? Let's be honest. They're pretty darn gross. And they can bring sickness.
ODOT has a few words to share: Lyme disease is caused by a bite from an infected tick. Most, but not all, victims will develop a “bull’s eye” rash. Other signs may be non-specific and similar to flu symptoms, such as fever, lymph node swelling, headaches, or muscle aches. You are at an increased risk if your work outdoors involves construction, landscaping, forestry, brush clearing, land surveying, farming, railroads, oil fields, utility lines, or park and wildlife management. Here are some great tips and tricks to protect yourself: • Wear light-colored clothing to see ticks more easily. • Wear long sleeves and tuck pant legs into socks or boots. • Wear high boots or closed shoes that cover your feet completely. • Wear a hat. • Use tick repellents (except on your face). • Shower after work. Wash and dry your work clothes at a high temperature. • Examine your body for ticks after work. A crew of twelve worked the 90+ degree weekend at one of the greatest biking/running Olympic try out events right here in Central Oregon! We are always excited to provide as much safety to these athletes who are working incredibly hard in the heat. |
